You knew it was a hot day if Alfie wouldn't even come out of Wells Creek (the Villa Maria crick) for a nice peanut-butter, raspberry-jelly and crick-sand sandwich washed down with lukewarm Kool-Aid. Cousins Chats, Pam and Tuck were on the bank preparing the gritty feast.
