More photos from the Burnt Wienie gala

Thanks to Aunt Florence for this batch of photos from Saturday's Coveted Burnt Wienie extravaganza: Cousins Cindi O'Donahoe and Barb Kirkwood checked to see if there were enough desserts. Barb and Joe brought a gigantic, delicious Dairy Queen ice cream cake. "Weinie" should be spelled "Wienie," as in "Vienna" (note to self: B.W. nomination for Barb and Joe for '09?), but the cake was perfect nonetheless. Hostesses Mavis and Pam made sure the food table was stocked. Mavis and Elmer brought enough delicious shredded beef and fresh bread for 3,000 people. Pam made everyone listen to a family history tidbits, including the story of the old picnic basket that once was used to take sandwiches to Claus Sprick and his sons as they worked in the fields. Flo wrote: "I remember it as tan [Annette painted it green in recent years], when we carried lunch to the thresher crew. Alverna and I did that morning and afternoon. Lots to do helping get a big dinner as well for the threshers at noon. Elmer was only 9 but he had to help pitch bundles. He could hardly lift them!" The scrapblog editor notes that it sounds like they had three lunches a day. Wow! Joe solemnly passed the mantle of Burnt Wienie champ to Pam. (Seeing this photo, I'm feeling grateful that no one nominated me for vowing to lose weight and then not doing so, ouch. But Lord knows there were enough other reasons to nominate me!) Say, have I mentioned that I won? I won, cousins!!!!! Cousin Sandy in Texas wrote the following: "Congrats on winning the Burnt Wienie! Hope you don't forget where you put it!" Thanks, San!
