In a dark time

Ever read the book or seen the movie "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"? The wardrobe is a closet that gets deeper and stranger as you go further into it. It reminds the scrapblog editor of the old family trunk in her basement. The deeper she goes into it, the deeper it seems to get, full of mysterious items and images. Here are two. The first, from a small pile of photos labeled "France," says on the back, simply, "Ed." It appears to be a World War II scene. Our Ed was there, with the infantry in the very worst places, taking on shrapnel, suffering from trench foot, watching his buddies die, but persevering and surviving. The second photo, unlabeled, is clearly Ed in a forest with a cat. What forest? What cat? And why does he look so sad? We'll never know. But perhaps the two images are related somehow.

Ed didn't like cats, therefore the frown. My guess is that cat ended up as fish bait later in the day. The forest was probably where they kept their moonshine. That's how Dave Sprick rolls, too.
