Uncle Bill in Vietnam

The scrapblog editor recently e-mailed these photos to an Iraq unit she's been working with after the captain asked if he could have them for the unit's newsletter. (She's interviewed several members of the unit, and during one mentioned that her dad was a career Army guy.) Dad (Uncle Bill to most of you, William Alton "Brother" Miller to the world) served in World War II, Korea after the war, Germany in the 1960s and Vietnam. He was a chief warrant officer (CWO) in Vietnam, overseeing the men he's standing with in the top photo. In the second photo, note the deep tan, which he always seemed to have. It may have contributed to his March 1, 1996, death from malignant melanoma. Despite war and cancer, no one had a happier life than ol' Dad.
