After Dad died of malignant melanoma on March 1, 1996, the people of Florence Township erected a bench in his honor at the Florence Town Hall in New Frontenac, Minn. In November 1996, we went to check it out. Pam, Alverna and Chris looked solemn in their photo. But Dad's grandkids, Noah, M., H. and Super-Zachary, channeled his goofy, gentle, happy spirit in theirs. The bench's plaque says: "Come and sit a while."
