Sad to leave the Army life

Dad/Uncle Bill copied this wistful quote on a scrapbook page about his retirement from the Army. Despite the Army life's discipline and hardships, and despite three tours of war duty, he loved the Army. As part of her day job as a newspaper reporter, the scrapblog editor recently covered a seminar where the psyches of soldiers returning from war were discussed. One of the things acknowledged there was that families are often shocked when soldiers come home and actually express wistfulness for the hard life they've just left. It's a common psychological reaction, partly because military life is "simpler" and partly because they're so patriotic, the military shrinks at that gathering said.
