Separated at birth?
Noah was born about the same time as Toby, Laurie Hertzel's beloved dog. Top photo: They meet as pups in 1989. Next photo: Noah, wobbly with puppy-love at the sight of Laurie's curly hair, offers her a swig of lukewarm baby formula. (Laurie kindly informed Noah's straight-haired mother that she needed a special comb for curls after observing her torturing little Noah with a conventional comb.) Bottom two photos: At a young age, Noah and Toby were both very scholarly, and liked nothing better than chewing on a good book. Noah, however, would wear a bib on such occasions.

the trick for curly hair is: never comb it when it's dry. it hurts like heck, and it separates the curls into fuzz. combing while wet keeps the ringlets together. i'm sure noah realizes this.
i love those pictures. the glasses! i'd forgotten about those glasses! why did we have a pair of empty frames hanging around? and why such extraordinarily ugly frames??
