November 2012 trip to France: Amboise -- Da Vinci's garden

Outside Leonardo da Vinci's house in Amboise is his garden. It was simply amazing, one of the coolest places we saw on our trip. And again, we had the whole place to ourselves. November vacations are wonderful that way.

A quiet respite outside Clos Luce, Da Vinci's manor house.

Noah outside Da Vinci's house.

Many of Da Vinci's inventions sit in his garden. This was a tank he invented. (Perhaps not surprisingly, his weapon inventions were the biggest moneymakers for him, though not his most amazing inventions.)

A screen painting hanging in the garden showed how Da Vinci was inspired by nature.

Hair, and weeping willow.

This is what happens when you go walking in Da Vinci's garden with a photographer friend. Photo by Chris Welsch, of course.

Noah and Silke took a break to swing in the playground near Da Vinci's garden. What a wonderful day!
