November 2012 trip to France: Amboise -- the town

On our last full day in Paris, we took a train south to the ancient town of Amboise, on the Loire River in central France, once home to the French royal court. We went with our friends Chris and Silke, and had a glorious, happy, fascinating day in the uncrowded, beautiful town.

Along the river Loire.

The town is full of old timbered housing. This roof was deep in moss.

Le chat noir! On one of the narrow, quiet streets of Amboise.

Resistance heroes are remembered and revered across France. Amboise named this plaza after one of its own.

Need a suit of armor? You can get one in Amboise.

These were over our heads in a cafe. At first I thought they were canoe paddles. Nope, they're bread pans, designed for pulling freshly baked bread out of big ovens.

We stopped for a drink here and there!
