Near Napoleon's tomb in the Hotel des Invalides area, we said a fond farewell to friends Masako Hirsh and Anthony Radoiu. The gold dome tops the Sun King's Dome Church, which holds a red sarcophagus in which Napoleon's body was interred in 1840, 19 years after he died on St. Helena.
The well-armed courtyard of the Musee de l'Armee, part of the Hotel des Invalides.
Walking back to our apartment at the Ile St-Louis, we passed many international embassies. Noah stopped for a photo at the South Korean embassy in honor of his friend Jamie Rae Blackburn, who's teaching in South Korea for a year.
Then we had a wonderful couple of hours at the amazing Musee d'Orsay, which used to be a big train station. You can't take photos there, but photos wouldn't have begun to capture the range of masterpieces we saw there, anyway. We did take a photo by the giant clock that frames the Louvre, across the Seine River. It may look familiar if you've seen the movie "Hugo." We also had a leisurely drink and the world's best "snacks" at the museum's cafe. What a great day!
