November 2012 trip to France: Amboise -- Chateau d'Amboise

Amboise is home to a famous castle, the Chateau d'Amboise. It was amazing.

Outside the castle. We had the place pretty much to ourselves.

A view of part of the town of Amboise from a castle wall.

Noah met a knight of olde, or at least his armor, inside the castle. They were sure short in those days, judging by armor and doorway heights.

A spiral cobblestone pathway leads to the place where the horses were kept.

A field on castle grounds.

On the castle grounds is a very famous church, the Chapel of Saint-Hubert, where Leonardo da Vinci is buried. He moved to France in 1516 at the invitation of his friend King Francis I, and died there in 1519.

Note the deer antlers on the steeple of the Chapel of Saint-Hubert. Something to do with the patron saint of hunting? Better than gargoyles, I say.

Again, the antlers take on a holy cast, framing a crucifix.
