November 2012 trip to France: Amboise -- Da Vinci's garden

Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452-May 2, 1519) spent the last three years of his life in France at the invitation of his friend King Francis I. They were reportedly very happy years, though spent in exile from his native Italy. We visited his house in Amboise, the Clos Luce manor house.

The entrance to Da Vinci's house.

The bed where he died.

Noah by Da Vinci's desk.

A bedroom in Da Vinci's house.

To think that the great man gazed through this window -- as we did -- was thrilling.

Silke patiently translated French sign after sign for Noah, who was eager to learn as much as possible about his hero.
