North Shore reverie

Starting with Annette and Hart in the 1940s and continuing into the new millennium, Castle Haven on Lake Superior's North Shore has been a favorite vacation destination. Old Edgar Lind, one of its founders, now long passed into the Norwegian spirit world, used to say to the Miller kids, "By-golly, the pressure's really on" when nothing much was happening and tell a story about how a bear ripped his dog's skin off and he had to sew it back on. In the top photo, Alverna, someone named Alice, Hart and Annette (we think) show off their blueberry pickings. In the next one, taken in September 1986, Pam ponders life as Annette reads the Duluth News-Tribune and Alverna does her nails.
